Good ole summertime. We’re right in the thick of it and having many adventures. Sometimes my blog posts are full of family pictures – these posts are a bit for me and my future. You see, I don’t scrapbook. I’ve wanted to, but I simply don’t find the time now. I have pretty, blank albums, plenty of papers and tubs of the children’s artwork and special paraphernalia (I hardly throw a thing away). Does this sound familiar? I’m hoping to make the time some day…..but for now, when I do have spare time to pursue my interests, it’s focused on jewelry and photography. My blog is my place to combine those two interests, and at the same time, create a sort of scrapbook of my treasured memories.
Over the weekend, we went to nearby Chincoteague and Assateague. If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you may remember our trip last summer. Well this time we had so much fun, we went back the next day. And I know we’ll make another trip before the summer’s over. We took the advice of locals and stopped by Island Creamery for ice cream. When the line goes out the door and in to the parking lot, you know it’s a good thing. Our favorite part was the home made waffle cones. You could watch them being made while trying to decide what flavor of ice cream to chose (Snickerbar cheesecake, cake batter, pralines and cream….).
The Assateague lighthouse is a favorite spot to visit (read a detailed early history here)….although we had to endure complaints from one of my sons that there were too many mosquitoes. As it turns out, the mosquito issue is a known problem and my bug spray just didn’t seem to make a difference. BUT, the view was worth it.
We were fortunate to see the wild ponies on both days… the famed pony swim is coming up this weekend.
All sorts of birds are in plain view at this nature park: egret, heron, sanderling, seagull, vulture and more.
Here is a marshy area near the beach that we explored on foot… and my flip flop was sacrificed. It was like walking in quick sand.

Those are beautiful pictures Cindy, love the one of you all on the steps of the Light House.

What a truly wonderful day you had
xx
Looks like my summer – but without the ponies! What a great place to spend it and meeting up with Laura what a treat! : D
Can you actually go INTO the lighthouse? Because one of the things that Zack and I want to find this summer is a lighthouse we can actually climb to the top of.
To answer Lori’s question first, they open the lighthouse for tours on occassion. they are in the middle of renovations so not sure but will check for you and let you know. Thanks for the shout out Cindy, you are so sweet! I am so glad we got to spend a little time together anyway and will work harder to find more time in the future! The picture of the seagull about to catch the prize is INCREDIBLE!!!
Cindy it looks like fun was had by all…. love love the picture of the boys sitting in the water. The seagull was quite the capture too. I think you are having a great summer by the beaches…..here we are roasting and no water to go play in unless I wander down to the muddy creek.
Cindy – you took such beautiful pictures of your boys at the beach!! We were at Myrtle Beach a week ago and I have such lame pictures! (One of them has my eldest losing his swim trunks while jumping over a wave. NOT what I had intended the shot to be.) We also traveled up to Baltimore and stayed at the Inner Harbor and took a day trip to DC. Of course thought about you being nearby. Love looking at your pictures. – Michelle

Oh Cindy, you guys always look like you’re having so much fun! Beautiful pictures, and I can tell a great time was had by all. I really want to go see the ponies someday. 🙂
Your boys are such a great team! We hope to get down to the NC coast before too long and summer is gone. Your photos make me want to put this on the priority list.
What could be better than ice cream, wild ponies, and the beach? I’ve added this to my growing list of places to see.
Your photos are always fantastic Cindy! Recording your virtual scrapbook like this is wonderful, you will have it forever and be able to relive these sweet memories!
You have reminded me of a book I read as a child about the ponies – I think it was Misty of Chincoteague…
Relish those wonderful summer beach days…
What a gorgeous spot Cindy, your photos capture it perfectly – I can almost smell the sea air!
